Carnival Receives Funding To Continue Its Carnival Education Programme

We are excited to announce the return of our Carnival Education Programme, thanks to a new grant from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. This funding will allow us to continue bringing Carnival arts and culture into schools, helping to inform, inspire and engage the next generation.

The Education Programme is a key part of our mission, working with schools to introduce students and teachers to the history and traditions of St Pauls Carnival. Through workshops and assemblies led by Carnival artists and practitioners, students get experience with costume making, drumming, dance, and more. The programme also offers anti-racism training and cultural awareness sessions for teachers, ensuring that inclusion and diversity are embedded in schools across the city.

Over the past two years, our Education Programme has engaged more than 7,000 students across 20 local schools and provided training for over 400 teachers. With this new funding, we can continue expanding our reach, making sure that even more young people have the opportunity to learn about and participate in St Pauls Carnival.

LaToyah McAllister-Jones, Executive Director of St Pauls Carnival, said:

“We are delighted to have received this funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. The work we do in schools is vital to Carnival’s mission, engaging and educating the next generation on African Caribbean culture, and preserving the legacy of St Pauls Carnival.”

Workshops Now Available for Schools and Businesses

Our fully funded spaces for this round of the programme have now been filled. However, due to high demand, we are excited to offer additional workshops to universities, colleges, schools, and businesses for a fee. These sessions will help support St Pauls Carnival and contribute to future education initiatives.

If you’re interested in booking a workshop or finding out more, please get in touch at schools_programme@stpaulscarnival.org.uk.
