People of st pauls carnival - da fuchaman
We may not be meeting in person for Carnival 2021 but we can still celebrate the people that make Carnival what it is. Hats off to the musicians and performers that give Carnival its sweet, sweet soundtrack.
Meet the one and only Da Fuchaman! Jamaican-born, reggae singer/songwriter and Bristol resident. His performances are guaranteed to get the crowd going. He kicked off our digital Carnival Spirit Up! last year with a killer set and we’re thrilled to have him with us performing online on Saturday to celebrate Carnival 2021 style!
What does Carnival mean to you?
Unification/togetherness, people coming together to celebrate life, freedom, culture and cultures.
Does St Pauls Carnival feel different to other Carnivals you have been to? If so, how?
Well yes! St Paul's Carnival to me is a festival of oneness and not only about music and food.
What have you learnt in the last 12 months?
I the last 12 months I have learnt that some of the things that we have taken for granted are some of the most important things in our lives, like the ability to get up and go wherever we like at any given time without restrictions.
I also learnt the importance of not putting too much of my energy into the things that I cant don't anything about and that the greatest riches is to love and be loved.
What are you looking forward to at next year's Carnival?
To get back on the stage and perform for my beautiful people of Bristol, surrounding areas, those who come from out of town and celebrate the fact we would have overcome pandemic.
What is your favourite Carnival moment?
Been on the Windrush stage with my Fire Blaze Band spreading positive vibes and crowd sending it back in their response to each song we played.
